Our home had smoke and ash damages due to recent fires. Our insurance agent asked us to submit the estimates.?

After we submit the estimates, is the insurance co. is supposed to send the check to us or they would be paying to the repair contractor directly?

It can go either way, you have to discuss it with the adjuster.

  1. Most insurance companies would prefer not to pay the contractor directly, as this implies that the insurance co is responsible for the quality of the repairs. They generally don’t want to get involved. They want to pay the claim and move on.

  2. No. They will also get the adjuster to provide others quotation, should the quotation from other contractor cheaper then your contractor, they may appoint them to do the repair for you. It is always an option whether you prefer the insurance company to pay direct to the contractor or pay the check to you after you submit the original repair bill and receipt.
