Can I keep in car & home insurance agent if I move from NY to GA?

I know I would have to register my car in GA but can I keep her as my insurance provider?

NO-Agents only sell in the state they are employed in if you’re dealing with a Captive Agent. That’s an agent who sells for only one company such as Allstate or State Farm.

  1. You can keep the same company only. Like if you have State Farm in NY, you will just have to call a local state farm agent in GA and they will take care of you. You can only keep an insurance agent if it’s for life. Enjoy GA. It’s a great state!

  2. Your policy will have to be cancelled and rewritten. You can only keep the same agent and/or insurance company if they are licensed in Georgia which in terms of the agent is probably highly unlikely. Most agents are only licensed in one or two states usually the one they live and work in and a nearby state.

For a specific response, call your insurance agent. I am sure she will be happy to go over this and if she does not write insurance in Georgia, she will probably be able to refer you to another agent there that will be able to help you with excellent service.

I hope this helps. Good Luck!
